The Board of Review is comprised of three township residents and one alternate member. The Board meets each March to hear current year property tax appeals, hardship exemptions and classification changes. In July and December, they meet to correct errors of the current or prior rolls and hear hardship applications. Board members work with assessing staff and property owners to make rulings based on the evidence presented on a case-by-case basis. All decisions made by the Board may be appealed to the Michigan Tax Tribunal after the conclusion of the meeting.

Property owners may appeal to the Board of Review in writing in place of a formal appearance. Written petitions should be dropped off or sent to the township office (7940 County Farm Rd, Parma MI 49269) via US mail. If you choose to mail your appeal, it is recommended to mail certified with a return receipt request.

If you choose to have an agent represent you, a current letter of authorization is required. The letter must include the owner’s signature, parcel number, and clearly state what the agent has been authorized to present to the Board on behalf of the owner.

Board of Review meetings are held at the Sandstone Charter Township Hall. Please call the Assessor at 517.784.4712 ext. 6 with any questions or to make an appointment.
